Laver Bariu

It should be noted that master Laveri has interpreted several kaba, but this kaba is among the most interpreted and partially created by him. “Master Laver’s Kaba” is two-part: kaba and dance.

“Laver’s Kaba” belongs to the pastoral type, which is usually played at Fa-note’s height, in which the rhythmic dance turn is performed. In this Kaba we find the great tradition of master Vangjel Leskovik and Medi Përmet, but also the interpretive skills of master Bariu. Typical of this Kaba is the use of the lower and middle register of the clarinet, a feature previously displayed by master Jonuzi in his kaba. In this Kaba we also find the frequent use of the minor septum, which fails to change its pastoral nature even though it comes from lamentation motifs. Master Laveri’s opinion on the types of kabas was based on musical notes. He called “heavy Kaba” all the Kaba played in Sol and generally as “Lament or Labiko Kaba” those in Do and Re. In any case of combining  of the tonic heights between Sol and those in Do or Re, the part of Sol is structured as a Tosk Kaba while that of Do or Re as Labiko Kaba. A good example is the approach of the well-known “Mediu’s Tosk Kaba” even in a variant of “Mediu’s Labçe Kaba”. Master Laveri said that whenever he interpreted lamentation kaba-s, he remembered his two brothers who were martyred during World War II.

The second part is a girls’ mild/gentle dance according to the tradition of the Permet Kaba created by Medi Përmeti and Jonuz Lamҫe. Master Laver has used three types of clarinets; in Mi b, in Do and mainly in Si b. The last Kaba recorded at Radio Tirana in 1990 was interpreted in Mi b clarinet and affectionately called “viper” by him.

At first,  the Saze group consisted of master Laver Bari Nurka on gërnet, Mazar Asllani on lute, Sazan Shahini on lute and singer, Qemal Ponoçi on accordion and singer; Lefter B. Nurka on accordion.
