Fitnete Rexha

Fitnete Rexha (Tirana 03.04.1933- August 14, 2003) “Merited Artists”-1961.

One of the most prominent singers of Tirana folk music. Fitnete came into contact with the tradition of Tirana folk music in her family. She was the youngest daughter of Bab Rexh Delija, a “People’s Hero”, whose family from Kruja, renowned for its traditional values, cultivated folk songs for many generations. Around the age of 17, she sang and recorded her first folk songs at Radio-Tirana accompanied by the orchestra group of Central Albania directed by Muharrem Gura and Skënder Reka. Fitnete attached special importance to the fact that she had learned to speak in the pure dialect of Tirana from her mother. This characteristic she also reflected on her songs. Despite the old recording techniques, in the songs of Fitnete Rexha the voice has quality, the words are clear and original and the language is clear and understandable, having as such a communicative force for the listener.

She first started working as a singer in the Variety Show of Tirana in 1953, and then her activity as a singer took place entirely at the Ensemble of Folk Songs and Dances in Tirana, from 1957 until her retirement in 1981. She recorded about 200 folk songs from Tirana, and not only. Some of the most beautiful songs sung by F. Rexha are: Te selvitë e Namazgjasë”, “Qënke veshur me të bardha”, “Mun aty tek shtatë zymbylat”, “Dy të bukurat në nji derë”, “Rrush i kuq”, etc. Her music recordings are mainly found in Radio-Tirana. In 1960, for her great contribution, she was awarded with the “Merited Artist” title. Academic. Prof. Çesk Zadeja said that Fitnete Rexha will be remembered as long as the folk songs of Tirana will be listened to.
